If there is one book (series), above every single other one that I'd urge you to read - it'd be the Abhorsen trilogy. As much as RepComm is great, this is the kind of YA fantasy that everyone needs to have at least grown up with - badass lady necromancers that exist in one of the most tactile worlds I've ever read, and with a killer plot to boot.
"Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?"
It's ... just that good.
Anyways! I've always liked Lirael just a touch better than Sabriel ... perhaps it's that she starts as a librarian that did it for me. Good lord, that was always the funnest part to read - her and the stilkin, anyone? Still might draw Sabriel sometime. ;D
oh! and before anyone points it out, I know there isn't any trees in Death, but it's an aesthetic thing. xD; Besides, it reminds me of the scene in the Water Temple in Zelda: OoT, and ... I just like the imagery. ;w;
time: 5 hrs straight (I was on a roll, alright xD ) program: painter 11 abhorsen (c) garth nix
I feel like Lirael had more time to grow into her character, while Sabriel was a bit fast-paced. Dog is my favorite thought.
I absolutely love your representation! She's so badass! And the painterly, hazy feel is a good mood for death. My boyfriend is the one that got me into the series. His whole family read the books when he was younger. I would have loved to have read this series as a kid, but at the same time, I feel like it's a bit suited more for adults.
I ADORE THOSE BOOKS aaahhhh so much love. The stilken was flipping terrifying, and I am now extremely distrustful of all fog ever, and I CRIED SO HARD FOR THE DOG T_T anyway! Love the painterly watery reflection stuff going on. The tree makes it less terrifying. :3
gah I just love the mood that went into the library (really, the entire series) - I could legitimately live there for the rest of my life and be happy. adventure! ;D
Oh man, trufax. I spent a lot of my childhood lusting after that library in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, so that was SUCH a blast to read about a library like thaaaaat. Deadly Free Magic beasties and all. <_<
SFNDKSFJNKAGNKD I'M NOT ALONE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO READ THIS HOLY POPSICLE STICKS.
ok, divided into two parts:
I. i REALLY like this. this is such a nice style. it looks like the face is smoother than your other pieces and, i dunno, it looks bolder than your other stuff? i don't know. i really like it. i like the key pattern of her tunic [or it looks like a key pattern, i guess]. i'm a fan. and it's really rare that i find fanart of anything related to nix.
II. i am SO glad i'm not alone in this series. this is one of my favourites. it sits next to my harry potter books, it's so amazing. i read them in middle school, and i couldn't get enough of his writing, so i started his other series, the keys to the kingdom series. have you read them? they are also magnificent.

Kinda the awesome thing about that series, innit? It's ageless.
